I am an ENL teacher with the Riverhead Central School District. I’ve been a teacher for the past 5 years working with ELLs (English Language Learners) of all ages and from all over the world. Most recently, I’ve been working with ELLs in grades 5 and 6. I’ve worked within all models of co-teaching and enjoy working alongside others to collaborate and learn. I’m currently working as the ENL provider in a co-teaching setting for the Bilingual 6th grade classes in my building as well as in a Pull Out setting for Transitioning through commanding ENL students. The students in the bilingual class range from S.I.F.E. (Students with Interrupted Formal Education) to above grade level in their native language literacy skills and Entering to Transitioning in proficiency level which makes differentiation and modification of curriculum a must. I’ve learned so much working with all of my students and look forward to continuing my learning throughout my career. I hold a Masters Degree in TESOL as well as a Dual Bachelors Degree in Spanish and French Language and Literature from Stony Brook University. I’m also bilingual in European Portuguese and the child of hard working immigrants who enabled me to have the opportunities I have today. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked as a translator and paralegal for an Immigration Law Firm working closely with people from all over the world. During my free time, I enjoy learning languages and traveling to my parents’ home country of Portugal to spend time with my extended family and to learn more about my heritage.
