Instructor

Oscar Mercado

I am currently an ENL teacher in the Bay Shore School District and have been teaching for over twenty years in New York State. The majority of my teaching experiences have been with New Language Learners, also known as ESL students. In that time, I have had the opportunity to teach on both the early elementary, as well as the middle and high school levels. I have also had the good fortune to teach future ENL teachers as a graduate school adjunct professor, sharing the experiences I have had. Over the years I have instructed in co- teaching, sheltered, as well as the pull-out model. I have also had the pleasure of teaching students at all levels of language proficiency of varying ages and abilities. Prior to being an ENL teacher, I was a Special Education teacher in which I also taught in various teaching models including resource room, inclusion, as well as self-contained on both the elementary and high school levels. In my home district I frequently lead professional development.
